Restano lì
sospese a mezz’aria
le parole
non dette
nel momento perfetto.
Non erano difficili
forse erano ovvie
proprio per questo
le hai lasciate stare.
Ma il tempo
ormai
ha chiuso la porta.
Ora occupano
uno spazio
ancora più grande
pesano di più
perché orfane
di una risposta.
Le trovi nei silenzi
si infilano tra i ricordi
ritornano all’improvviso
con la stessa voce
che avrebbero voluto
allora.
Non c’è rimedio
solo la consapevolezza
che la prossima volta
le pronuncerai.
They remain there
suspended in mid-air
the words
left unspoken
when the moment was right.
They were not difficult
perhaps they were obvious
and for that very reason
you left them unsaid.
But time
by now
has closed the door.
Now they occupy
a space
even larger
they weigh more
because they are left bereft
of an answer.
You find them in silences
they slip between memories
they return without warning
with the same voice
they would have had
back then.
There is no remedy
only the awareness
that next time
you will say them.
